RADIO 1 DJ Chris Moyles has negotiated a massive pay deal set to enrage colleagues.
The self-styled “saviour of early morning radio” gets around £630,000 of taxpayers’ cash a year.
That is a staggering £15 for every minute he is on air. Other top names get a fraction of his salary.
Award-winning Jo Whiley who, like Chris, has five shows a week, gets an estimated £250,000 a year. And drive-time host Scott Mills gets over £130,000 — around £500 a show.
Last night an industry insider said: “Chris is a huge talent and is credited for increasing audience share.
“But I think people will be surprised to hear he’s paid so much more than the others. There’s a chasm in the pay scale which isn’t really justified.”
Leeds lad Chris, 32, joined Radio 1 in 1997, starting on the 4am slot.
His 7am-10am slot has 6.5 million listeners a day — up 360,000 in a year. He took over in 2004 from Sara Cox, now paid about £200,000 a year for her two shows a week.
Meanwhile Pete Tong is reckoned to get a relatively lowly £70,000 — although he can earn up to £10,000 a night as a club DJ.
Edith Bowman is said to be on about £175,000 a year, Colin Murray nearly £170,000 a year and Zane Lowe close to £130,000 a year.

According to Media Guardian, the BBC is to launch an internal investigation after the salaries of Radio 1 DJs were leaked to the press.The corporation believes a BBC insider may have accessed a computer database containing extensive staff salary details and is investigating where the security lapse could have occurred.
A spokeswoman for the BBC said: "Clearly we are very unhappy that this information has been leaked. We would never discuss salaries. We are looking into it."
