Well why isn't there a thread about this?

Yeah sorry, I haven't been on here that much over the last week so forgot to start a thread ;)

I think he's great in the part, also like Amy as well, the story went along at a nice pace for me & also liked the music throughout. The only weak part for me was the opening titles but even then I like them. 9/10, a great start for the new team :)

Just watched it, the opening episode did its job in setting the scene in my opinion and the preview looked like there was some potential for some light hearted terror in the coming episodes.

I'll reserve judgement for now but so far so good.

I've seen a handful of few comments on other forums (shit I'm exposing myself here to visiting other forums ;)) in regards to this, why did you feel that Jocky85 out of interest? I think I can guess but I won't assume at present, I just curious if your opinion is the same as theirs.

I'm a Doctor Who geek (said that too proudly there) and have seen all of Docs 1-10's stories that still exist in the archives, and from my perspective the only one that was ever "kiddy" was the 7th Doctor during his first year. I felt that the story had a good mix of humour & drama unlike Series 4's opener (which was the weakest story of Series 4 to me).

Yep I have to say that I have warmed to his Doctor a lot quicker than Tennant's, he just seems to have that more "alien" quality that Tom Baker had. However it is too early to tell so far, however the trailers & clip on Jonathan Ross from Vampires Of Venice, look very promising indeed.

I think he's great. I wasn't at all sure when they announced him, I thought his look was a little too quirky - but he works the quirky really well, I like his intensity and the air of confidence he seems to have. His personality is perhaps a little closer to David Tennant's Doctor than I expected, but realistically that must help in the transition period, and it will probably develop in a different way. I really enjoyed the episode too, it was well constructed, well written and the production was even better than it has been for either of the previous "new gen" Doctors. If I have a criticism of this new arrangement it could be that no one should be allowed by law to be as gorgeous as the new assistant. But that is a differnt thing entirely.........

Amy Pond is actually hotter than I thought when I first seen her.

Let me clarify that... I mean I first saw her in preview posters and not how you first see her as a child in the first episode. So anyway...

Yes, very nice indeed. And, bonus, she's Scottish. You get bonus marks for that. Geeky stat - she has the best accent in the country being from Inverness: ask the call centres, they did a study on it.

What do I think of the Doctor? Dunno yet, still trying to get used to him. He's not David Tennant which will take some getting used to. But he has potential and I'm not going to judge him too much on the adjusting to the role introduction episode.

All in all, I'm looking forward to the next episode, which is what I was hoping I'd be doing. I haven't lost interest.

I did watch it, but not through choice......and must admit I did enjoy it!

I have never ever been a fan of the show.

I think it was down to having an older brother who always had to watch it and me wanting to watch something else that turned me against it.

Same thing happened with Star Wars.....I just wanted to watch the Goonies......so I hate Star Wars!

I think I would probably enjoy Dr Who if I sat down to watch it, but my position is pretty much the same as Matt Smith said his was when he was on Moyles - I grew up when it was not on the air, so I didn't bother with it when it came back. I might give it a go.

I'm the same, the first episode of Who I ever watched was Tennant's first and that was forced upon me, but I enjoyed it so I rented Eccleston's series and I have been hooked since.

 Karen Gillan really is gorgeous, for me, looks wise she's up there with Freema Agyeman (Martha) & Nicola Bryant (Peri, from the classic series). However I have to say I rather like he character on the whole, she seems as if she may challenge the Doctor from time to time, which I'd rather have then constantly lusting after him like Rose did in series 2 (that really did put me off her a bit in Series 2 by the end)

I really like her Inverness accent, the only other Scottish accent I had ever come across before is Glasweigen & although there's nothing wrong with the accent I much prefer the Inverness one, especially Karen's 8)

Great line, one of my favourites from the episode, also liked The Doctor's "Bascially...run" near the end & Amy's delivery & look on her face when she said "no" after Rory asked her if she was going to turn round when the Doctor was getting changed. Steven Moffat has started off very well :)

I remember watching Colin Baker when I was young, and then Sylvester McCoy. Didn't like either of them, but my dad was a big fan of Tom Baker's doctor so even when it was off air I'd occasionally see it on UK Gold. I really enjoyed the TV movie and was disappointed when that was all they did with with Paul McGann. So when it came back as a TV series again with Christopher Eccleston I thought I'd give it a go and see if they'd improved on the 6th and 7th Doctors. They did, massively, so I've stuck with it ever since.

Having said that, I was highly disappointed Steven Moffat decided a bit of casual racism was required within minutes of his first episode at the helm. I'm guessing he was trying to fit in with that anti-Scottish joke. It's apparently worked quite well.

I don't know how old you are Topher but my only childhood memories of Doctor Who was the last year or so of McCoy mugging around on set (I was 6 when the show was cancelled in 1989) & I'll be honest as a child I absouletly hated the show. I watched the movie in 1996 with McGann but again it never really registered with me. I'll be honest that I only tuned in because I had seen the odd little clip of Tom Baker before hand & because I had seen Christopher Eccleston in 28 Days Later & the excellent "Our Friends In The North". Otherwise I probably wouldn't have made a point of tuning in, then again I don't think LWT had much on that day so that may have been why I tuned in anyway. :)

Colin Baker was one I was advised against when I first got into the classic series, however I have since seen his episodes & listened to quite a few of the Big Finish audio adventures & I'd now rank him up there with Tennant, Smith, Tom & Troughton. To be fair he wanted to play it more reserved but the producer at the time wanted him to be more brash. Also the initial plan was that he would mellow over time but when Grade put the series on hold plans changed somewhat.

As for the causal racism, I do take it you know that Steven Moffat is Scottish himself ;)

No, I think you misunderstand the concept of the "lol". Plus we are at 9 now anyways, one of my mates made me "lol" on facebook over the weekend. He was perturbed because he didnt get the number 10 spot.

... I just looked at the Wikipedia page on "lol" and apparently:

Lol is a Dutch word (not an acronym) which, coincidentally, means "fun" ("lollig" means "funny").

I can almost appreciate that. We should change the rules so that Dutch people can use it freely on here.

Yeah, that's what I meant by "I'm guessing he was trying to fit in with the anti-Scottish joke." I'm not offended by it, and indeed it's funny, but it's a disappointing direction is all I meant.
