I've just seen this on another forum

400K apparently.

It looks pretty poor. Reminds me of our local radio stations branding from the 80s!

It looks like it's been designed in MS Paint. I'm no graphics expert, in fact, I'm pretty damn crap at graphics, but I'm almost certain I could have done better than that.

Apparently these are the designers:

They must have seen Seb and Coe (geddit?) coming.

Personally, I didn't see anything wrong with the original design.

No, I don't see why they can't use that design either; until all this talk of unveiling a new logo, I assumed that would be the proper logo all the way through the event.

Depends on what you think a logo should do though doesn't it.
When you have to communicate with all languages and all cultures it become very difficlut to please all, and you need to think Icon,
at least it's not the Churchill Dog with a Beefeater hat on, which is the usual rubbish we seem to come out with for National Events.

personally I don't really care about the Logo, and companies with smaller turnovers than this event spend more that £400k on Branding and identity.

As long as the people of this country get behind the event in a possitive fashion, rather than moaning about overspends, and late this, and £400k on this, that and the other and actually help to make the event the best the world has ever seen then I can't see it as being a problem, somehow though I think the cynics and the media as always will win, and even before a disk id hurled, or a stroke been made, we as a country will have "lost " the Olympics, and possibly the only chance we will get in our lifetime to prove through means other than Military what a bloody great country we live in.

And now you should be stood whistling the national anthum !

Yes and I do understand the meaning of Jingoism, but then again I understand Whinging, moaningm negative loosers, who are affraid to stand up for sometihng for fear of failure.

PS that comment is not intended to be directed at peoples comments here at all, only at those in general who continually berate all things.

Boboff I agree in part; it is, after all, only a logo and I'm sure smaller companies do spend more than that on corporate branding, however, I do feel it's a bit of an embarrassment; it just looks extremely unprofessional.

By the way, I've not moaned about anything else re: the 2012 Olympics, I was ecstatic that we got voted to host it.

I think its awful, really really poor - but I agree with Boboff about the event in general, and that we are incredibly fortunate to live in such a brilliant country. Not perfect, but nowhere is. But the logo is shameful.

"The logo symbolises the multi-ciltural diversity of the Nations of the world, and whilst underplaying the role London has in the event seeks to use vibrant colours and clear graphics to speak to the world in a simple symbolic form, with the almost niave appeal of the logo, and the use of styalised graphics we pay homage to the 2000 years the games have represented the truest and purest of deeds within the sporting arena seeking to bring sportmanship, excellence and achievement to Nations."

Oh and I like Fushia and yellow, and I had an acid trip whilst playing fuzzy felts and Tetris at the same time.

Firstly, why are they underplaying the role of London, it's only the bloody venue after all

Not sure I'm seeing the Clear, Stylised Graphics, just a visual puke that a kid could have done.

BBC News Readers' alternative Olympic logos - personally I really like the first one, I think it's simple and effective. Even the second one, which blatantly has been done in Paint is better.

Dobbin, I made that quote up, please don't be too critical !

I don't know the answer it's marketing, which as we all know, is like christmas, allot of people believe in it without understanding it, there are even some that talk about what it means !

they must of spent 400,000 on hiring thousands of people to do a design each, and then picking the worst looking one!
It just dosen't look formal enough for the olympics.

Most of those are better than this one that's been chosen. I like the last pic with Ricky Jervais in it too.
