Someone at work told me this, and as far as I can tell, its absolutely true -

If you are sitting at your desk now, lift your right foot off the floor, point your toes and rotate it in a clockwise direction. Keep doing that, and at the same time, with your right index finger trace a number 6 in the air in front of you. And your foot will have changed direction. Apparently it is completely automatic, your body/brain simply does it, theres; no way to control it. It seems to work, to me, I've tried and tried - can anyone out there control this reflex?

That is weird... but it works. It's almost like your brain is trying so hard not to move your foot, that it somehow does.

I cant point my toes without them making loud cracking noises but it does indeed work.

Yeah, I can totally control it. Kept my foot going clockwise whilst tracing the no6 for a good ten seconds before i stopped to type. But i did have to concentrate. I dunno why that is.

But my foot didn't start changing direction till I read that would happen... It's almost like your brain thinks it's going to happen, so you can't control it.

There must be some way the 2 actions are interlinked in the brain, maybe that part of the brain controls the same 2 movements.

Heres another one to try....
Stand in a doorway, and push the backs of your hands against the door frame, use all your strength, as if you are trying to seperate the frame, and keep doing it for about 20-30 seconds.
Then walk away from the frame, and completely relax your arms.

That involves moving. Yudster knows her target audience as she gave something you could do when sat down.

That's just a very weird feeling. In sixth form, we did a version of that where you lie on the floor and push yourself down.

If you want to look daft, try to lick your left ear whilst simultaneously trying to touch each elbow with the relevant middle finger (right elbow with right middle finger, left with left).... get them to speak at the same time, and you've got a great Joey Deacon impression.

I always do foots man. What always amused me about Joey Deacon was the old duffer of a translator, surely he was superfluous.

On topic I just tried the foot wiggly thing and I accidentally stroked the shin of my colleague with my foot....... bad idea. So I moved around a bit and re-tried, this time I managed to unplug my monitor.

In summary, don't try it at work.
