Just a quick random thought, but do you prefer Summer or Winter? Do the dark nights get you down?? Or are you a snow-worshiper?

Summer for the same reasons; the only downfall is that I have a big phobia of wasps and they usually make me dance around like a loon if they're nearby.

Spring everytime............ summer's too hot........ winter's too dark......... autumn's too hard to spell. Today's weather here in Leeds is pretty much perfect for me.

Tophoo - Im with you on the wasps issue. Im not scared of them as such, but I completly fail to see the point of them. Every other creature seems to do somthing worthwhile - wasps just seem to sting things for the hell of it.

I don't mind bees so much

Autumn is a very enchanting time of the year for me, I find it morbidly fascinating to watch everything turn to sh1t. Like when you can smell the concrete when it just starts raining. Something to behold. I've lots to look forward to, yeah Summers OK too.

If I were blind, and had only Dominic Byrne's vague weather forecasts I would probably find life a bit bleak.

Winter definitely; I'm not good in hot weather generally, and I have chronic hayfever which starts in April and lasts til September. The only downside of winter is that now I'm an old lady, my bad knee gets stiff and sore in cold weather.

Exactly right, bees have a purpose and my phobia is definitely logical, wasps don't have any purpose other than stinging.

Does anyone think there are far fewer wasps around than when we were kids (I appreciate that doesn't denote the same time period for everyone, but loosely speaking...)?

You can never be too hot - this time last year (as I've mentioned at some point before) I was in Mexico and I'd kill to be back there.

there are fewer wasps around now than when i was a kid. i remember seeing my dad whack a wasp nest with a baseball bat and being locking indoors for a day until they calmed down. i still don't know what the hell he was thinking. this is the same man who put his hand in a lawn mower for some reason.

I'm no nature expert, but something to do with honey and/or pollinating plants?...

Hmm, I don't think they're getting fewer myself. Maybe it's a plus point of living oop north.

Bees obviously produce honey, wax, cross-pollinate plants... they are useful creatures (but how the hell do they fly with bodies like that and wings as small as that.)

Bee's make honey. They also only sting as an absolute last resort, which is fair enough.

Wasps just play "sting the human".
