i need an excuse for not going to a work training day in southampton tomorrow. i need one by about 10amish as thats about the time they will ring up saying "where are you?"

so far options are

- im ill

- train problems

- my dog ate it

illness is the best as i am actually suffering a bit of man flu at the moment and my boss knows this.

any other ideas you wacky moyles fanaticals?

how about: when i went out side to get the milk off the doorstep the door blew shut so i was locked out in my dressing gown, so i went next door to call a locksmith who drilled out the lock and ghas just let me back into the house. now i have to stay in as he changes the lock. could take 2hours or so.

Your dog ate the train? I wouldn't buy that!

Depends on what you do I suppose, but "iv'e been up all night with sickness and diarrhea" is a fairly generic way of saying "i can't be arsed coming in today and as long as i don't do this too often, theres sod all you can do about it!"

I agree with Footloose here.

How about something like I took the dog for a walk this morning before work and he got a thorn/sharp stick/piece of glass stuck in his paw, so I'm trying to get him a vets appointment, so I won't make it to training today...

Only works if you have a dog mind you...

I always use the "im ill and im not coming in today"

Simple and it actaully works

I'm proud to say I've never actually pulled a sicky (actually that's a lie; I did pull a sicky two and a bit years ago to go to the interview for my current job). I've not had a day off ill since I was at school I don't think.

I'm with Topher on this one........... sometimes when you're chopping down trees, you need to stop and sharpen the axe.......... and that's what training days are for.

Mincy you should attend for the good of the company and yourself.

Once again you speaketh the truth.
I have used pretty much that exact wording, but I was mildly ill and exaggerating it when I used it.

What's so bad about a work training day? I'd love a day out of the office and still get paid for it, but maybe that's just me.

I used to be the person that would take the call, so Ive heard it all.

It was always good when the person calling in sick was in the same pub / club as you the night before.

"On" kendra... "on"...... "out" was Gaspode's suggestion and is too transparant.

Although for added spice and oddity you coule remove the word "to" from my suggestion.
