It hasn't bothered me all week but this morning was * ridiculous. I woke up and turned my radio on at half 8. I was expecting maybe half an hour comprising mostly of chat about it, but all I got was half an hour of 70011 read repeatedly. Even then I always enjoy the Golden Hour and he said before the golden hour about how this was the last plug but even then The Golden Hour started late and between every song it is all he mentioned. Yes, I've donated and yes, they've raised a lot of money but just leave us to enjoy The Golden Hour on a Friday. I enjoy waking up to that. And then in the second half we only got like 3 songs. I regret listening this morning.

I just tend to subscribe to a 'their show, their rules'. In real life when people are doing something for charity they ram it down your throat - its the nature of all charity collecting at the moment.

The hackney weekend promotion got a horrendous backlash for one day of heavy promotion with little mention since - despite it being one of their biggest events ever which necessitates a much more complicated process that needs to be explained (at the penalty of public backlash which will effect their funding).

If my favourite show is high jacked for a couple weeks a year for an ulterior motive (especially one that's worthy) then I'm not really that bothered,

I thought I'd just provide some balance amongst what I see as unfair criticism that at times is lacking a bit of perspective.

Almost £1m for charity isn't too bad! Im sure if the promotion wasnt so heavy then it would be significantly lower. I've listened all this week and been a bit disappointed, but at least it's for a positive reason. I guess I'm just not as angry about losing a week of the show to charity.

It's Friday, everyone needs to smile and eat something fattening!

Very reasonable post that, chrysostom. I just think it went too far and would have been far happier if they had kept their promotion
more in line with the other shows on Radio 1. It has just been way, way too much for me.

You're right though. It's Friday and I am about to start a week off work, so I will cheer up now!

Much as the repetition has ground on me slightly, it is justified by the need of those far-less well off than I am...

I only listen to about an hour a day, so it really hasnt bothered me that much and its for a good cause so who cares.

One or two weeks a year they do this sort of thing and I think it is amazing the amount that he been raised.

Well done John Bishop and well done Chris and the team and well done everyone that has donated and/or has not moaned about it

It clearly worked, didn't they get to over £900,000 on the strength of it? I agree with everything Chrysostom said.

They were probably hoping they could push it to £1m befor the end of the show - shame it didn't quite make it.

If it was like this all the time I wouldn't listen. But it isn't, its a one off (or at least an irregular occurence), and I think its been entertaining and I have enjoyed it.

Charity is one of the best things the beeb does anyway so it should be used to its full advantage to raise money.

I agree one week a year is not too much to ask, the only thing I would say is that all of bishop's achievements will only make sense to me once I see it on telly. Wasn't enough listening to him every morning.

I'm surprised they haven't done anything on The One Show or something.

It does seem that the show is the only one on Radio 1(or on any BBC station in fact) that goes in for such ridiculously heavy promotion of Comic and Sports Relief ie. going on and on and on about it all morning, until you feel like asking them to give you some money for enduring the almost impossible challenge of listening to them. I know it's the flagship show on the station , but there's still there's no need to let it take over an entire week's worth of shows, even if it is only once a year.

I also know that you don't have to listen, and as I've said elsewhere, I did turn off this week and actually managed to avoid most of the blathering on. I just have bad memories of it from other years! As I've also mentioned in another thread, I would quite happily hand over 20 a quid year if they promised never to mention another worthy cause on air again, and I'm sure a lot of fans of the show would give money to do the same.

Stick a bit of whisky in the next one. Even if it doesn't help your throat, you'll care about it less.

Can I be one of the people you call? I was enjoying the interview very much this morning. No idea what any of the actual words he said were, though.

Work. I'm meant to be starting back at home 3 weeks today and still nothing has been sorted. My store down here are supposed to be contacting my home store with my return date but the communication between the 2 is awful. I even rang my home store today to try and sort it and apparently they need to wait for an email. This dual store contract really isn't easy, although apparently they have to give me the hours when I come back though so effectively it should be down to them to try and sort it as well.

Absolutely nothing is annoying me today.

What is making me happy is having planted about 400 Raspeberry canes in my "forest garden" along with 30 or so blackcurrants, some roses, and Goji Berries. If I had bought them it would be over £1000 worth of plants, but I propogated them all from cuttings or seeds or division, which makes me a clever chap! Woop Woop.

Thanks boboff. I appreciate the effort. I fear this thread will never catch up with the other one, but it's good to give it a go anyway.

People at work have wasted so much time just by being STUPID today. I am very very annoyed. I may kill someone. Possibly myself.

I'm not! But if you think long enough about 2000 years of patriachal oppression, it'll depress you too.

Seems to be that a high proportion of feminists think that this is an excuse for trying to promote matriarchal oppression as an acceptable ideology.

Which alienates them further from the men whose viewpoints they wish to change.

Mm, possibly. I follow the F Word on twitter and they tweet links to great thought-provoking articles on all topics related to feminism, even though I don't agree with half of what's said. I was reading one this morning about a petition someone has started to abolish the title 'Miss' from all official documents...

The Westboro Baptist Church and their trollish, attention-seeking comments. Why must people still give them the attention?

Both of these adverts show the normalisation of outward sexism toward man in today's media - by shamelessly, and act to solely to perpetuate negative male stereotypes (given their context).

Adverts like these bring no public outcry, no 'head of masculism' condemning them and generally the male population just allow themselves to be slapped in the face by unimaginative put downs. It feels that a majority of feminists aren't able to celebrate their own achievements without contrasting them against that of a man's.

I have long been very vocal in my loathing of that Boots advert. It is simply dreadful - not just because of the appallingly condescending chauvinism which is the obvious hook, but the fact that ultimately it still manages to portray an overwhelmingly negative idea about women. I * hate that advert.
