So if its not offensive, and it is funny, what exactly about it is disappointing?

It's a cheap and easy laugh. Save that for the sitcoms.

A lol is a lol!

Even if you put "lol" or lolled its still a lol

A "lol" only happens on the internet AT something on the internet. Anyone who "lols" in real life should be made dead.

I've seen a handful of few comments on other forums (shit I'm exposing myself here to visiting other forums ;)) in regards to this, why did you feel that Jocky85 out of interest? I think I can guess but I won't assume at present, I just curious if your opinion is the same as theirs.

I'm a Doctor Who geek (said that too proudly there) and have seen all of Docs 1-10's stories that still exist in the archives, and from my perspective the only one that was ever "kiddy" was the 7th Doctor during his first year. I felt that the story had a good mix of humour & drama unlike Series 4's opener (which was the weakest story of Series 4 to me).

I wouldn't cout on my opinion, I've never been a follower of Dr Who. I simply meant they looked younger in comparison to previous Doctor's and assistants, Amy Pond in particular looks about 12 to me.

Ah ok, fair enough although you do realise that there was a grown up Amy in it about 15-20 minutes in don't you ;)

Only Joking, although I suppose because I'm used to the Peter Davison era (where Davison himself was only two years older than Matt & at least one of his three companions in his first series was under 20) I suppose they don't feel too young to me. Fair enough though :)

First time of watching Dr Who for me! Never watched it before ever. It was quite good i thought. I'll watch episode 2 either today or tomorrow.

I enjoyed episode 2 - but I am beginning to be worried that the storylines are a little less - what's the word? A little less grown up? This series just feels like it might turn into a children's series. The Sarah Jane Chronicles (or whatever its called) is brilliant and already fills that gap, lets not have Dr Who proper go that way too.

I may be beginning to miss Russell Wotsit............

You're second person I know to have thought that. I can see why, but I think this was just a character building episode for Amy. Next week will be more telling I think as we once more shoehorn the Daleks back into the storyline.

I actually like the subtle change in direction, I rather enjoyed the episode last night, especially The Doctor & Amy, I think both Matt & Karen have nailed their parts.

The Dalek one looks like it's going to be ace :)

There's a shift in dynamic which I hope doesn't develop. I need The Doctor to be confident, in charge, infallible and ultimately right - not to be shown up by his assistant. In episode 2 the Doctor got it wrong and Amy got it right - that's a worrying development.

I can understand your concerns Yuds, but I think, if anything, this was the episode to introduce us to Amy & show that she's not going to be one of those "oh isn't the Doctor great & doesn't he get everything right" kind of companions, in some respects she's a bit like Donna who would challenge the Doctor every so often (look at The Fires Of Pompeii for example where she plays on the Doctor's emotions & makes him go back for that family, something which the Doctor was hitting home that he couldn't do throughout the majority of the episode).

I think Amy may turn out to be an interesting companion, one who likes The Doctor but isn't afraid to tell him if he's going to far.

The companions have traditionally been people who would challenge the Doctor morally, like in the example you give. But this time he made a mistake, he got the facts wrong. It wasn't a case of knowing what was happening and deciding that he couldn't do anything to help, he actually reached an incorrect conclusion about what was going on - and the assistant simply worked it out from what had gone before. If she could do that then he definitely should have been able to. I'm not sure which is worse, the possibility that The Doctor is getting thicker, or that the assistant is getting cleverer. Or more to the point that the writer thinks WE are getting stupider.

Fair enough, although still think this may be an isolated case, I won't say why but in that trailer for Victory of The Daleks, The Doctor seems to have figured something out before Amy, I won't say what though as that will spoil all of yours enjoyment.

Yuds you concerns are perfectly normal, you should see some of the posts on Gallifrey Base, at least you have reasonable concerns, some of the stuff over there is totally barmy

Advanced Warning

Don't look at today's TV Times if you don't want to see the new designs for the Daleks.

Anyone who does seem them & does dislike them, I've been reliably informed over on Gallifrey Base that they look a lot better on screen :)
