I never cease to be amazed at the appalling level of written English which seems to be acceptable at GCSE, A level and university. I had a graduate working as my temporary assistant last year - I had to write out the alphabet and explain the concept of putting things in alphabetical order so that she could do some of the filing. And she had just got a 2.1 - in marine biology, I grant you, but I would have thought a rudimentary understanding of the basics of English would have been useful, even in that subject. I expect she is working as a "consultant" by now.

Im sure I heard somewhere that "txt spk" either was made acceptable, or was going to be made acceptable in exams.

That worries me.

That could never work anyway - there's so many different variations of it, what would be deemed acceptable and what wouldn't? Kids could excuse their spelling and grammar errors by claiming that it's txt spk. That's obviously besides the fact that it's a ridiculous and stupid idea.
