I'm too headachey to bang on about WHY it's stupid but, for one thing, it's horrendously unworkable and just panders to Daily Mail reading idiots.

Porn filters... won't work, as someone tweeted last night, kids will be able to get around them and adults will be the only ones affected. Also, it's impossible to do without blocking legitimate sites as well. Also, as some giving their opinions on the news are saying, go after the people making and distributing the photos first and foremost.

Yeah, the porn filter thing is intensely annoying. Normal adults who enjoy legal porn and who have no children sharing their internet access will be made to seem like weirdo perverts. It's also worrying that the same legislation will block sites relating to self-harm and suicide - as these filters can't usually detect context, it means that as well as sites promoting those things, sites offering help and support for them will also be blocked. So kids who are self-harming or contemplating suicide but feel they can't talk to anyone in person won't be able to access what could be lifesaving support networks. Argh.

If the filters do work, it wont be long before they will be changed from covering just "illegal material" to "morally objectionable" then to "morally questionable" etc etc
Also interesting that Cameron is happy to wait to see how the generic appearance for cigarettes plays out in Australia - but this, which has already turned up issues, he's happy to continue with...

I mean I know he's probably looked after his money but he must need some kind of income to live the life he does.
I know he done the musical and I'm sure that paid well, and the farm food adverts which probably gave him some pocket money but going by what little info we know be doesn't seem to be doing anything.

His financial arrangements are * all to do with anyone but himself and the source(s) of any income he may be getting. Why would it be annoying you?

My point being that it "annoys" me (not literally, but I wanted it to fit into this particular thread) that he isn't doing anything in the public eye. I enjoy his radio and tv work and wish he was back on the air. His finances were a small point as to why he might have to return to the air sooner rather than later.
