My advice? Ditch the credit card. Things may be tight for a month, but paying interest when on low earnings is real false economy.

Prob not as easy as I make it out to be, but with a bit of thought and pre-planning you can get yourself lined up for it to happen soon(ish).

Tight for a month?! My wages from one month would not pay off my card. From four, maybe. And I can't afford to have no money for that long. (I suspect you overestimate how much I earn!) Yes I know it's a false economy, but meh.

If you give it six months Nic with a credit card and pay what you can on time, then you may find your credit rating improve enough to get a 12 - 18 month interest free account set up. Although finding one with a transfer that is free is hard it is not impossible, anyway one way or another get the amount on the card that you need and then stop using it. Save what interest you would have paid until near the end of the term, and pay this off as a lump sum, then try and get a new interest free deal. You will still have to pay the minimum amount every month, but this will be clearing the debt rather than paying interest off.

It's a long old slog, and always something seems to come up to scuper the plans, but it is worth having a plan.

To be honest I'm not that worried about it. I'm not in arrears and I don't think being in a bit of debt is the end of the world. I have no plans to apply for a mortgage or anything else where not having a great credit rating would be a problem. Nobody ever said "I wish I'd paid off my credit card sooner" on their deathbed.

Not annoying but sad - Just heard this morning that a big part of my childhood is going to end -

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... l?ITO=1490

Britain's oldest comic The Dandy is facing closure after 75 years.
At its most popular between the 1950s and the 1980s, the adventures of cow pie-eating Desperate Dan and Korky the Cat sold two million copies a week.
But competition from computer games and the internet has seen sales plummet to fewer than 8,000 in the second half of 2011.

Mind you, if sales have dropped from 2,000,000 30 years ago to less than 8,000, I'm amazed it hasn't been shelved already!

Our kid was a big Beano fan too. I bought him this History of the Beano book for Christmas a couple years ago:

It's a lovely huge glossy hardback. Almost as cool as my 40 Years of Sesame Street one:

I feel your pain Zoot. I used to get the Dandy every week as a kid, my brother would get the Beano. I remember when it used to be 30p or so! Very sad news.

Gaaaaaaaaaargggh! Someone I work with owns a Greyhound. It was racing last night (and on Sky TV). He sent an email to all staff to put a little flutter on. I don't gamble as a rule, so I didn't....

People are now starting to turn up, all with stories of victory and cash money! Biggest win so far is £1,800...! (on a £100 bet). SHIZZLE!!! That'd have properly helped out after my silly car repair bill. Humph.

Been sleeping rubbish cos it's so warm and thus overslept both this morning and yesterday. It's really unlike me to oversleep and it just stresses me out for the whole morning. Also, I paid a bloody fortune to get the album for my tribute book delivered next day delivery and even though my building has a concierge who takes in all parcels, when I wasn't in they took it back to the depot yesterday - which is the other side of the city from where I live. ARGH.

If that bet was a single, it'd mean the price was 17/1 which is absolutely ridiculous for a dog!

Student loan rejected? As in you were accepted for the course but rejected for a loan? Can they even do that?!
