But you have to speculate to accumuate!

But I agree about RVP, its a bit disrespectful!

WHY something as obviously BALLS as creationism given a seconds thought is beyond me.

"In this exhibition we also acknowledge that for some people, this debate continues today and we reflect and respect the fact that creationists today have a different perspective on the age of the Earth from that of mainstream science."

MAINSTREAM science? It's either scientific or it isn't. There is science and there are fairytales and creationism belongs firmly in the latter category.

That's some remarkable intolerance.

(I am not a creationist by the way, before anyone asks.)

Creationism pretends to be a science, it isn't. Not by any definition of the word.

And why can't you just let them pretend? They're not harming you.

Today, because I'm hungover and grumpy, but mainly because if this kind of thing isn't challenged and pointed out to be totally wrong then it's only a short step from there to creationism being taught as a science in schools.

That'll never happen in the UK. In the US maybe, but who knows what goes on there. I believe in respecting people's right to their beliefs. The belief that God created everything is reasonably popular, and telling people they are "totally wrong" won't change anything.

What's annoying me today? Hearing Chris Moyles do his high pitched voice from this morning's show. It's so annoying, and he seems to find an excuse to do it every other day. STOP IT CHRIS!

No, certain views have to be challenged and dismissed. Creationism is a nasty attempt by religions to try and make it look as if their beliefs are scientific, they're not, they're beliefs and that's fine but creationism is in no way a valid scientific field. Even the European Parliament is worried about it creeping into modern life -

"On October 4, 2007, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted its resolution 1580 titled The dangers of creationism in education. The resolution observed that "the war on the theory of evolution and on its proponents most often originates in forms of religious extremism which are closely allied to extreme right-wing political movements", and urged member states "to firmly oppose the teaching of creationism as a scientific discipline on an equal footing with the theory of evolution and in general resist presentation of creationist ideas in any discipline other than religion""

I don't know much about the allegiance to right-wing politics so I'll have to claim ignorance on that. Looking at their website, they don't describe it as a science but do claim to be doing scientific research, but it's a lot to try to take in whilst at work! I am not the sort of person to dismiss anyone's beliefs out of hand.

That's the one. He also did it in the 'Aled's Nursery' clip that's in the vault from a few weeks ago, which to be fair is quite funny.

Completely agree.

Stephen Evans at the National Secular Society explains why: "It's extremely disappointing to see the National Trust giving credence to bogus creationist explanations for this world famous heritage site. Visitors, many of whom will be children on school trips, expect to be informed at the new Centre, not presented with religious propaganda.

"We've seen how Christian fundamentalists have gained ground in promoting creationist nonsense in the United States; we must be vigilant and not allow those kinds of ideas to gain a foothold in this country".

And Brian Cox is even more succinct: "I don't mind creation stories presented as mythology, but to suggest there is any debate that Earth is 4.54 billion years old is pure shit"

I work with a couple of creationists and there is no reasoning with them. All you get from them is that "it's in the bible".

Religious types can believe whatever they like but the moment they put their views out in public they are open to be challenged.

I'm quite religious, but I think creationism is awful nonsense that has no place in today's society. People need to stop taking the Bible literally.
