Well, I can quote from a text message, but you'd have to take my word for it that I wasn't just making it up...

How do you know they're assuming you're unemployed? I can't imagine how that would come up in conversation with complete strangers in a town centre.

Especially these days when so few people work traditional Mon-Fri 9-5 type jobs. If I'm ever off work on a weekday I always think that the city centre seems almost as busy as it is on weekends.

It was people I know of. They are friends with my girlfriend.

"Not got a job then?"

"yes thanks I technically have 3"

*walks off*

People who don't keep tabs on their emails are annoying.

Always so judgemental*!

The email came round with less than 10 minutes warning of a server shut down, so its not like I had a massive window. I could have spent 10 minutes at the printer, having a mini-meeting, dropping a load - all sorts to be away from my email for only 10 mins. As it turns out loads of us missed it due to the short notice.

Neither of those comments is true. It isn't judgemental to expect operational systems to be used for designated operations. I completely agree that 10 minutes is stupid notice - if I have been judgemental in any direction it is in assuming that no decent organisation would support such poor practice, therefore assuming that proper notice had been given. Obviously it wasn't, ergo they are stupid and you are justified. And I'd love to know where you studied genetics. :D

My PPI cheque still hasn't come. I'm getting impatient now! I want to take myself off on a little visit to London and spend some of it, damnit. I know, I shouldn't moan.

The other week we gave a two minute notice that our ERP system would be shut down - that was exceptional circumstances, though - my boss had managed to delete every single stock code from our database and we needed to revert to a backup. Under normal circumstances, we try to avoid daytime shut downs and if they are absolutely unavoidable, we tend to give an hour or two notice.

Under 'normal' circumstances we get 24hrs+ notice of that sort of thing, but we had a major issue, hence the 10 mins notice. But I agree with Yuds point, given the nature of the short notice added to the fact we all work in one big open plan office, could Mr IT not have stood up and shouted to all to ensure message was received?!

Nic... Its money until recently you didn't have or have coming. Be patient, it is what it is, a bonus.

Yuds... Ha, you know me; Struggle to spell my own name, Jeanetics course be wasted on me...

Yeah, we rang round all departments and told them to get out now.

People complaining about the drought, citing 'It's raining, so why is it a drought?'.

It's like slowly incurring a debt of £500 a month for 2 years, winning £3000 - then claiming to be rich.
