totally seperated from the genre what you're talking about but... this seemed the only 'appropriate topic' to put it in. Just got it yesterday - very very...blah blah blah

Richie Hawtin - DE9: Closer to the Edit

Sampled over 150 tracks, * it up (so to speak) from one note to four bars (loops etc) and incoporating them into 'the mix'. Techno. Re-defining the mix, and straying from the conventional beat-match and cross-fader.
Kurupt = crap
Charlatans new one = CLASS

Also, the new Aphex Twin album is absolutely mental. I got it a while ago, but I need to listen to it again (he's on the cover of this weeks NME.

Lastly, you may or may not be aware of something called 'The Tip Sheet' - Moyles has mentioned it a few times (ie. slagged it off) and I learnt about it in my Media Studies class. It's a music weekly for the record industry, with details of new artists/songs that are going to be big in the next few months. It is edited by Jonathon King and costs £5 a week if you want to subscribe (cos of the cd) but it's available on http://www.tipsheet.co.uk/ which is nice. Quite interesting to see what the industry reads, and to see how much of it they completely nick from it. Richard Murdoch also features in each issue.

How do you learn about such interesting and relevant 'stuff' in your media studies lesson. We've got as far as a case study on 'coca-cola', with the teacher delivering the instructions and sitting down with a cup of coffee and paper! ??? :-[

Oh and welcome back from your short break Dan! :)
