There are many words to describe this album; bizzare, eclectic, funny, rubbish, excellent maybe even genius but the best I came up with is unique. I honestly believe you would struggle to find another band who sound like this an thats one of the biggest compliments I think you can give nowadays. The range of music is probably as broad as it has ever been in this country yet The Coral have found a niche.

I read a review referring to some of The Corals songs as sea shantys which I think is fair for some but there is no common theme. If you like the singles it is no guarantee at all you will like this album although on second and third listen you will pick up the catchy tunes. I particularly like Talkin' Gypsy Market Blues and Confessions of an A.D.D.D. but I doubt any two people would agree.

I noticed this album was produced by Ian Broudie and if their was one criticism its similar to what I would have said of The Lightening Seeds - that sometimes the music is better than the lyrics (the instrumental of The Life Of Riley is genius). But I like this album although I wouldnt recommend it as I just have no idea who would enjoy it.

Besides its number one in the Woolworths album chart which is always my barometer of quality music.
