Sounds fab, I'm in.

I finally saw it today - yep, after everyone else! I enjoyed it despite the gaping plot holes that other people have pointed out. I knew there would be lots even if I, as a relative Trek novice, didn't spot them all.

The main thing I liked was that it was action from the start - no half-hour of faffing about building up characters. The main thing I disliked was that Kirk's transition from young rebel to enrolling willingly in Starfleet felt too quick and easy. I understand they didn't dwell on it cos they wanted to get the story moving along, but still, a 2min talk from a stranger in a bar wouldn't actually have done the job. Other than that, I was glad I went and I too, liked it better than the Dark Knight :)

I thought the film was very well done : and clearly from a sci-fi fan. Covering all bases by...*thinks about plot spoiling* It covered itself of any slight differences to the originals, the casting was inspired : and uhura was a hottie. Klingons were the antagonists, but NOONE IN A RED SHIRT DIES! (or do they). Basically, i liked it a lot, but i think it's one that is very much to be seen on the big screen. After seeing it i saw a pirate version and turned it off after 3 minutes as without the awesome special effects some scenes are a bit tedious.

Why couldn't they spend the next movie sorting the time line out?

Quit yer moaning.

but i thought the whole idea of having an alternate timeline was to prevent any possible bastardising of the original star trek? plus it gives them scope to kill characters off

although sorting out the timeline may give george takei an opportunity to make a cameo, which i would pay money to see.

not that i didn't pay money to see the film...well it's a subscription based system which allows me to...i'll leave it.

Either which way, the sequel will definitely bleed into the third installment (this is certain because JJ Abrahams is in charge, and he is 1 step away from blending all his dramas and films into the same timeline) and i can't think of many popular 2 part films with half a story in each...or am i wrong?

Er, yes they do...the party of three who dive onto an orbital drilling platform includes one member in a red suit, Chief Engineer Olsen, who waits til the last second to deploy his chute and falls into the drilling beam.

All I suggested was that the Vulcans, and old Spock in particular, might want to restore the old timeline to what it should be so that Vulcan didn't get destroyed. But no one even suggests it.

The Khan idea might be interesting, I wasn't moaning about that.
