I know the subject of dreams has been covered before, but yesterday R1 were discussing anxiety-based dreams.

Fearne Cotton was saying that every time she has something new to do in her job, or someone important to meet, she has a recurring dream about playing a guitar in front of loads of people, and just a single, dreadfully off-tune note comes out.

Do you have recurring dreams when you're feeling scared/anxious about something to come?

Yep - being back at school, usually at exam time.

Me, too. Only I'm late for class and can't remember where my locker is, the combination for it or where the classroom is. It's always one of those 3. I wake up petrified. Then I remember that I'm an adult and shouldn't care. Inevitably I realize my problems nowadays are far worse than those and I long to go back to sleep and have such menial concerns!

I have a couple of dreams quite regularily. The first is that I'm frightened of something (I don't know what) and I try to shout but nothing comes out no matter how hard I try. I usually wake up sweating like crazy. The second isn't really a dream, but just as I'm falling asleep I jolt as if I'm falling downwards. This has a scientific explanation but I can't remember what it is.

My son sleep walks all the time, he'll come walking into the lounge fast asleep, sit on the sofa and stare into space. It's * freaky! When I pick him up and take him back to bed, he's giggling, but it's not the concious type giggle, just a really spooky quiet giggle. I'm gonna call a priest in soon!!

I hate that. It still scares the crap out of me every time it happens.

Think it might be something to do with your heart beat skipping or getting out of sync. Google probably has the answer but I can't be arsed to look!

Google wrote:This strange falling sensation and muscle twitch is known as a hypnagogic myoclonic twitch or “Hypnic jerk” If this has happened to you on more than one occasion, don’t worry, you are not alone. Close to 70 percent of all people experience this phenomenon just after nodding off, according to a recent study at the Mayo Clinic.

I had a strange dream last night where I was back at school, but I was as I am now mentally, yet still got bullied and beaten up as normal. I woke up clutching my leg, thinking I'd just got kicked in the shins.

I get that, too. I hate it.

No but I could try him on Vodka maybe?! A good nights sleep then!! Apparently I used to do something similar so maybe it's genetic.

I usually get that hypnic jerk thing if I'm dropping off somewhere that I struggle to get to sleep, like in the car. I can sometimes get it in my normal bed as well though.

My sister did it last night, and it woke me up.

Me too. I remember maybe one every few months. I do talk in my sleep sometimes and walk on occasion, altho I've never got further than the next room. It's a bit confusing, tho.

Not for a long time. I do remember having one a few times when I was school.

Everything is on fire, except the wee patch of grass that I'm on. For some reason, despite the fact they're not where I am, I know my loved ones are safe. I just can't get to them.

But like all my dreams, there has to be something completely weird about it. In this case, the whole dream is set to the tune of Fields of Gold by Sting!
