Following on from the current discussion about sweeties, was wondering what kind of cakes people like?

I like cheesecake of practically any flavour, and Black Forest Gateau with loads of cream. :-)

I'm much more of a Savoury person than sweet, but I do love Cheese Cake. One of my colleques brought a home made one in a few months ago, and it was without doubt the best I've ever tried.

Carrot cake with thick Philadelphia topping. Raspberry swiss roll. German Apple cake. My friend Liz's chocolate refrigerator cake with marshmallows and jelly tots. Chocolate chip muffins. Apple and caramel roulade. Mr Yudster's Christmas cake. Victoria sponge with chocolate chip buttercream filling and chocolate chip icing. Chocolate fudge cake (from Nigella's recipe). Strawberry shortcake.

All home made, regularly available chez Yudster. All damn fine, and not a cherry pie among 'em.

Just about anything but cheesecake of any sort, anything with nuts in or anything coffee flavoured.

I can't do nuts, I'm allergic you see. I have an anecdote about it too, and I shall share with all those who care to read, the setting is in a bar in Paris........ I've just ordered a beer, and I noticed that the bar man filled up the bowls of peanuts with his hands before passing me the drink...... the conversation that ensued when roughly thusly (he spoke English)

Me: "Excuse me, do you mind pouring my drink into a clean glass, this one smells of peanuts and I'm allergic to nuts."
Him: "What did you say?"
Me: "You touched peanuts before pouring my drink, and this glass smells of it and if I drink from it I will get a sore throat."
Him: "I did no such thing." *he sniffs the glass* "And there is no smell."
Me: "Well there is to me. I saw you touch them before you touched my glass, so I can't drink from it."
Him: (getting very angry) "How dare you say such things about me, I did no such thing. "
Me: (getting worried by his anger) "I am really sorry but I saw you do it, and I can smell it, do you mind just changing the glass for me, and washing your hands first?"

His following outburst cleared up the "confusion" that we appeared to be having, he lent over and talked to the waiter in the bar (I've made up his name as I can't remember it)

Him: "Hey Jean-Claude, this English man thinks I am an animal, he says that he saw me here behind the bar touch my penis before touching his glass. "

Within a minute the confusion was resolved, he laughed about it, I laughed but felt uneasy, and I was soon settled down with my free glass of peanut and penis free beer.

The End

I don't think I'm allergic to nuts, if I am it's an extremely mild allergy; they make me vomit but I think it's more likely to be the taste that I don't like than an allergy.

And on that note. A early finish and a trip to the nearest (real) pub might be in order.

How then that you then say you don't like the taste?

Thats funny baggie, very good.

I like Fresh Cream Slices, Cream Horns, Apple Puff triangle things, but best of all is Pavlova, love it !

I made maringue recently for the first time, and I was quite pleased, especially give I didn't have the recommended steel bowl !

Lots of faffing though.

Wine Gums are my favorite sugar confectionery, and I am partial to a Picnic, Lion Bar, Double decker, and Cadburies fruit and nut, about 2 a year of each is sufficient though.

We had a rather effeminate label supplier in today and he asked....... this is true..... whether "he could bum some fudge" I was like totally out of that office in a second.

What a strange confectionery based request ( this guy is 6ft 2, 17 stone, really bad teeth, wears a high Viz jacket and is as camp as they come, very very scarry !)

Copper. The bowl you are apparently supposed to make meringues in is a copper bowl. In the past I've used copper, pyrex, ceramic, plastic - they all work equally well as long as they are absolutely clean.

The purpose of 'but' was that anything after it was an exception (i.e., something I don't like.)
