From this Monday (New Year's Day), there's going to be a dramatic makeover to the Singles chart meaning that literally any download will be eligible for it. This also means that singles from years and years ago could return to the Top 40. I'm not sure about the change in rule as I feel it may look inaccurate but I'm still looking forward to how it pans out in the long term.

it will maybe reflect more what people are listening to.

Im not sure how may singles are sold in a week but from what I have heard, they don't need to sell that many singles to get to the top of the charts.

The final nail in the coffin of the chart in my opinion.

had to be done really.. so many people download songs nowadays that without combining the two charts it would probably die.

They should start allowing illegal downloads to count towards it, that would really get the numbers up

Why should it? Ever since the chart began there's always been re-entries. And how do you define a new release? How many weeks does a song have to be out for before it's no longer a new release? And what if a song gets re-released?

It should be 52 weeks since it's release like it is currently. Re-entries are when the song is re-issued. Of course with downloads they could just re-issue it every 52 weeks, but still there should be some rule to define it. The chart is supposed to reflect new and popular music - we know what old songs are popular as they have already charted upon their original release. We don't need to know via the chart that every Christmas that people still listen to Slade and Wizzard because we know - it's on the radio every other second

So... how many download's did the Chris Moyles World Cup Song and Mouldy Looking Stain get?
Isn't it possible that Chris Moyles could get a top 10 hit?

I liked Honey To The Bee first time round, I thought it had a lot of merit. I may just download it.

I think you'll find that if you listened this morning, the big man already has plans to accommodate this new rule change.

Ever so subtly mentioning his "Chris Moyles World Cup Song" in the discussion they had about this. It may have come across as an on the spot after thought, but I imagine it was in his mind the minute the rules changed. Fair do's too. Mo money mo money.

did chris and the team ever do anything more about the new single they were planning the other morning (possibly thursday!)..something about humming constantly and only saying a few words/phrases..i think they were planning to release it the same day as some other guy (possibly the one from BB who 'forgot' who chris was) anyway the idea sounded quite funny, just wondered if anyone knew what's going on...?

That man has his fingers in many pies, and his radio show is one of the best ways to ensure that those pies are out there in the public domain. It wouldn't surprise me if he was a share holder in Longman's sandwich shop, the amount of air time he gave it.

Still, I've said it before and I'll say it again... good on him.

Bfb, are you saying he uses the show as a kind of publicity stunt thing ?
By Ballbag

I'm just saying that his show is publicity you can't buy, one of the most listened to shows on radio, and therefore the perfect medium for showcasing Chris's other talents and projects. I.e. book, which he was told off for by management, but still managed to get mentioned nearly everyday.

I shalln't be drawn into suggesting that it's some form of p.......puu.......puuuub........ you know what I'm meaning to say.

Again though I will add, it's fair enough.
