I can honestly say AVG has never given me any problems, but when I had Norton it blocked too much and stopped programs running all over.
Key advantage over Norton other than regular updates and lack of hassle, IT'S FREE (tho not sure if 7.5 is free, haven't checked it out yet).

The 'catch' is that you JUST get the AV. The version you pay for has spyware scanner, email scanner and the like. It's a basic product compared to the feature-filled pay version, but for most of those you can get free programs elsewhere that do the same, like Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-aware etc.

AVG does come with an email scanner for the most popular mail clients (outlook, eudora etc.) I haven't had any trouble AVG and i've been using it for ages

Tophers attempt to type in "northern" amuses me more than the joke.

It's roughly as good as my attempt to speak northern.

AVG can scan incoming and outgoing mails in Thunderbird.

It is free, although the pop-up with 7.1 told you that you had to pay for that version they have now released the 7.5 that is still FREE.
