We do eat pumpkin things, probably just not as much as the yanks. I had some pumpkin soup once. It wasn't very nice.

I made pumpkin soup with Cinnamon and Curry powder, a little low fat yogurt to finish and it was wholesome and delicious !

the conversation roughly went:

"someone brought pumpkin pie"

"i don't think i have eaten pumpkin but it sounds horrible"

an in depth discussion as you can see.

Pumpkin and squash is getting much more mainstream in UK cooking, I don't like it - I don't like things which can't make up their mind whether they are sweet or savoury. Also pumpkin dishes tend to be very smooth and pureed, fine for babies, but I like things I can chew! But I have had pumpkin bread, which I liked very much.
