Hello all! Thought it might be an idea to revive this thread (although it's still sticky) to talk about the new show now it's official. I plan to pick up where I left off with clipping as soon as I've got some new instructions from Chris. Ian, are you still planning on doing edits as you used to? What program will capture shows from these stations, anyone know?...

Mine was a casual listener to the old show, so we did chat about it a bit last night, but we started dating a week after it finished, so he's never experienced me in full-on Moyles geek mode. He knows I'm a massive geek generally though, so it's fine :) The second time he came round to my flat I put the final show dvd on so he could watch the tribute book bit...and somehow he still wanted to marry me!

Yes I'm planning on downloading each show and editing and uploading the edited version to Internet Archive, and then posting the link, possibly on the Wiki, and possibly here too so it can be copied to the archive. Speaking of which, someone will need to create a new section for the Wiki, and also for the sticky thread if we are carrying on with that.

For the editing I plan to remove all news bulletins except for the first one. I'll also remove the music (with slightly less strict edits than what I did with the breakfast shows), and I'll remove all of the ads. The hope is that I'll be able to edit each show the same day, after work, and upload it that evening, because I'll be wanting to listen to each show the next day (and the Friday show the following Monday).

Jay has told me how to download the shows and its really simple so that's all good.

I was originally hoping that someone else could upload the full shows, but if I'm editing the show anyway then I could always export a full version before I start editing them, and then I could just upload both version to IA at the same time. So I'm happy with doing that unless Jay particularly wants to download and then upload the full versions.

I can help with clipping when not in work

Just an offer as you said you wanted someone else to upload a full version as you are editing. I'll be downloading the full version myself every day when I get home anyway so if it isn't already uploaded I can stick it up (Euphemism?)

I'd love to chip in again (I did use to enjoy copying and editing all the old Afternoon Shows), however I have no laptop at the mo (just using and Android mobile/tablet at present) so have no means so I'm happy to see several of you are up for doing it again as I know I'll end up missing most of these live these days.

I know I originally started the archive threads but I believe Nicola & Ben took charge of that when I started getting rubbish with it so I don't think I can edit anymore?

FYI, I've been doing some digging. Here's the direct link to the 128kbps MP3 stream of Radio X (It's just playing XFM at the moment):

http://media-ice.musicradio.com:80/RadioXUKMP3 (File > Open Network Stream will open that in VLC)

Here's the normal M3U playlist link:

Thanks for this - I was trying to record the XFM stream using this link but VLC wouldn't let me save it directly as a file that could at least be renamed to a '.mp3'. With the first link you provided, I can select 'MPEG 1' as the encapsulation format in VLC's Streaming/Transcoding Wizard which saves the file as '.mpg' but can be renamed to a '.mp3' file and play normally.

When I downloaded a test show it was an mp4, and I had to convert it to mp3 to be able to edit it in my software, so it seems like re-encoding it might be inevitable. But then I reckon it would be pretty much impossible to hear the difference between the mp4 and the mp3 seeing as they are both already compressed.

Unless I can just rename the mp4 to mp3 and have my editor accept it. I'll have to try that.

No, I have all transcoding options off. It just won't let me set '.mp3' as an encapsulation format, I have to rename the file manually. No big deal, just a little annoying.

Conversion always screws up the quality, so you should always try to avoid it. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/s ... clnk&gl=uk

Problem is that when I download a show directly from the XFM website it's in mp4 format (which I can't rename - I was thinking about renaming m4a to mp4), and my audio editor won't allow editing of mp4 so I have to convert it (my MIDI sequencer accepts mp4 but there is an issue with it, which I'm currently trying to get help with). But even if I could edit the mp4, I'd surely still have to export the edited show as an mp3 anyway, because lots of people's mp3 players would probably struggle with mp4 files. All suggestions as to the best way to do it are welcomed however :)
