But I think Chris Evans is a really good radio presenter. As is Simon Mayo. I don't want to have some crappy idiot win it just because some people don't like Nick Grimshaw.

Simon Mayo hands down. I quite like Chris Evans too, but Simon Mayo is a million times better than him.

I do agree about Simon Mayo but his show is spoiled by his "team" - the other voices, especially that awful traffic woman, are embarrassingly bad. Such a shame because Mayo is great.

I agree.

Oh I quite like the team... they're no Dom, Aled or Carrie, but Matt makes me laugh.

Really? He isn't as bad as Sally, but they are all so relentlessly middle class its almost offensive!

If Chris is registered, the public can vote for him - according to the terms and conditions,
the presenters’ programme must have been broadcast on FM, AM, digital terrestrial, satellite or cable, streamed or made available for download between 1st January 2012 and 31st December 2012.

Brand New ‘Listeners’ Choice’ Award Introduced for 2013 Sony Radio Academy Awards
Sony launches exciting new category – the Sony Golden Headphones Award

Sony launches a brand new listeners’ choice award for the forthcoming Sony Radio Academy Awards. The Sony Golden Headphones Award is an exciting new award category that allows members of the public to vote for their favourite radio presenter, finally deciding which of the myriad presenters whom we hear over the airwaves every week has won the hearts of the British public.

Any radio presenter or personality over the age of 18 who holds a regular slot on a UK-based radio programme can register their name free of charge to be in the running for this unique award by visiting sonygoldenheadphones.com. Registrations will remain open until 5pm on Thursday 11th April.

The Sony Golden Headphones Award will be decided entirely by public vote, which opens on Monday 15th April. Voting is limited to one vote per email address and will close at 5pm on Friday 10th May. All voters for the Sony Golden Headphones Award will automatically be entered into a free prize draw to win one of twenty pairs of MDR-1R headphones.

The winner of the Sony Golden Headphones Award will receive a specially created trophy. The design is based on Sony’s best-selling MDR-1 headphone range and will be presented to the winner at the Sony Radio Academy Awards ceremony on Monday 13th May at Grosvenor House Hotel. Second and third place recipients will also be recognised.

John Myers, Chairman of the Sony Radio Academy Awards, commented: “The Sony Golden Headphones Award has come about as a direct result of the feedback we have received from our members asking how they can further involve themselves with these prestigious awards. It is the public’s opportunity to vote for their favourite presenter and is open to any presenter on any station in the UK.”

It appears Chris will need to register himself though - "Any radio presenter or personality over the age of 18 who holds a regular slot on a UK-based radio programme can register their name free of charge".

He doesn't hold a regular slot on a UK-based radio programme though.

It's only a minor award not one of the big two (breakfast /entertainment) . A bit like winning an Oscar for make up.

His show is still crap.

His show has nothing really to distinguish it from any other daytime show on R1 - but I don't think it is crap. Its better than Mills anyway.

LOLOLOL GRIMMY IS SHIT LOLZ.

Ben's point is valid, the show uses the various different platforms efficiently and to good use. The nomination stands up to scrutiny.
