Have a nice time, that's a different way to celebrate Christmas :)

I have three days left: all of Tuesday, half day Wednesday, all of Thursday, half day Friday, the half day on Wednesday is for the Arsenal-Villa game, Friday we've been told we're shutting up shop between 12:30-2:00 and won't be back until 3rd January :D

I like Christmas, but the fact a bookies is open every day of the year bar the 25th when GP surgeries are closed for 8 days is a * joke. Annoys the hell out of me.

Agreed, that's just ridiculous, our local hospital is now Queens in Romford, I'd rather go to my local GP than have to visit there for anything minor (although I'm sure we have a walk in centre somewhere now, unless they're also closed).

Loads of businesses are open 364 days a year now though (yes, including theatre!) - it is a bit weird that GPs surgeries haven't caught up, but there ya go.

After only having two days off last year and feeling like Christmas passed in a blur, I've had the good sense to book the 23rd-28th off this time. I'm back in 29th-31st, but I don't mind that. The trams and Starbucks will be nice and quiet cos of all the offices that close right through, so at least my journeys in will be painless. Well, apart from the lack of Moyles.

Our firm is odd, we're multinational but the UK version gives you 25 days but 3-4 days have to be taken off over the Christmas period as a lot of business we deal with (not just customers but suppliers) close for Christmas, I just think the majority of the industry breaks up and they only have engineers on over Christmas in case of emergency.

Add to that the fact that a GP is the most highly paid form of doctor you can get (vastly overpaid) and to be realistic, I could do their bloody job - someone comes in, you ask yourself - do they need antibiotics? If yes, prescribe. If no, ask yourself do they need antidepressants? If yes, prescribe - if no, refer to a specialist.

GPs are THE most overpaid and mollycoddled individuals on the planet.

Yes true Yuds.

They hardly ever have to deal with blood tests, Statins, Pressure sores, Diabetes, Headaches, Tumors, Fractures, Cists, Pregnancy, Dementia, COPD, Smoking Cesation, getting called out at 2 in the morning, Mental Health Issues, Chronic Pscyocosis, Arthritis, boils, Thrush, domestic violence or bad tempered pre menopausal women over simplifying everything!

Oh, and the fact that they are "free" at the point of use, and of need, and they have to actually pick the right specialist is neither here nor there, any old namby pamby could do that.

G = "general" the fact that Depression and Bacteria Infections are very common is hardly the Doctors fault. There pay was set by the labour government, who GOT IT WRONG........ There arn't more doctors now than there were, it's not like that is the motivation to be a GP as 20 years ago the pay was relatively SHITE.

Anyway, Merry Christmas.

GP' hardly ever do blood tests - they refer them either to their own nursing staff or, more frequently these days, to the local walk-in clinic. Just like they refer everything else on your list. And yes they are free - which is just about what they are worth.

And of course everything I have said is exactly true in every case, and I have by no means exaggerated the specifics in order to reinforce a general point. Its absolutely clear that I completely believe, in the most literal sense there is, every single word I wrote and am in no way paying the role of grumpy old woman to the hilt in order to demonstrate that I am (was) in a bad mood.

However - I do genuinely believe that the discrepancy between the salaries offered to GPs and hospital based clinicians is weighted in the wrong direction, and that the level of service offered by many individual GPs and practices is poor.

Happy Christmas to you too, and Mrs B and the Bobettes!
