Not sure if there's a thread for the Big Weekend this year. The only one I could find was one that announced the venue. Anyway, discuss anything to do with the Big Weekend here.

I applied for tickets but it appears I've been a victim of my own naivety.

I live in Bangor and I didn't get any tickets. My sister lives 10 miles away and she got a pair of tickets for Saturday and a pair of tickets for Sunday. She applied 6 times using different names and different email addresses but the same home address. How many other people have been successful using this method?

I only applied once because I stupidly trusted Radio 1 to be able to spot those making multiple entries and I didn't want to risk jeopardizing my entry because North Wales hardly ever gets stuff like this. It seems I got my hopes up for nothing.

As much as it pains me to say it, I won't be listening to Moyles and co. or any Radio 1 for at least the next 3-4 weeks, probably longer.

Can I ask - how did you think they would do this?

Well obviously, with the benefit of hindsight, I should have worked out that if I had used different email addresses then they wouldn't have bothered to check if I was the same person, but maybe the fact that 6 girls with very similar first names and the same surname applied for tickets from the same address could have raised suspicions?

Are you suggesting that the applications are all scrutinised by a person with the capability of being suspicious? I stress here I have no idea how its done, I'm just not sure how they do go about making the entry fair - or not!

I would have thought they would be able to cross check postcodes and if a large amout from one postcode appeared they would be able to check them......but saying that......pah......sounds like to much effort

Well I'd have assumed that there was some software in there somewhere which could do that. But from what I've read here, perhaps not?

Obviously I don't know the database used, but it should be a piece of piss to group applicants by postcode and stick a count of applicants next to each.

The blerb did specify that multiple entries from the same email address would not be accepted, so my best guess would be a search programme will have been ran to eliminate multiple entries from the same email address, not on name, variations of name or indeed address or postcode......

I entered more than once, one for my email address, one for the missus. We live together but I didn't worry about this as there was nothing in the small print about this being disallowed.

Didn't we get the same thing last year? Someone declaring they wouldn't listen to Radio 1 for a while because they didn't get tickets to Swindon?

I thought he just meant that he wouldn't be listening because of all the Big Weekend hype. It is annoying, you must admit - probably especially so if you are in his position!

You are correct. Tbh, I've calmed down about it now. I'm still a bit p*ssed of though and I won't be listening to Moyles until at least the 1st of June i.e. just over a week after it's all finished. Hopefully they'll have stopped talking about it by then.

When we sell tix for an event with a per customer limit, we can very easily pull a report of bookers that shows the names and addresses of bookers, so duplicates are easy to spot and cancel. It does make me wonder whether Radio 1 have employed a company with ticketing software to allocate and produce the tix, or whether they've done it in a manual way, ie had a pile of tix and a pile of email printouts and just matched one to the other.
