The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Well, I tried, I really did. I normally Listen Again to the CMS in the evenings after work, so yesterday thought I'd do the same with Scott.

In the past, I have never liked his show, but thought I'd give it an honest and as objective as possible go this time, a fresh start as it were. Sadly I only managed to get through 30 mins, and then simply couldn't stand it any more and had to turn it off.

I say sadly, as I really wanted to like it: I sometimes feel that I am just being blinkered because the CMS is the only Radio 1 output I listen to. Listening in the evenings is also part of my routine, so I was really hoping that I could make Scott part of it.

I know this just makes me come across as a CM sycophant, but I honestly wanted to like Scott's show, and made an honest attempt - and honestly couldn't stomach it. Flirt Divert on its own makes me cringe, never mind the rest of content.

A great pity, but there you go. It's going to be a long two weeks......

Wake up to Wogan. You will have no idea what he is on about and he has a big schlong.

Everyones a winner.

Is he not playing the cheesy song this time? He has done in the past.. My alarm is still set to turn the radio on when it goes off and I can't be arsed to change it, but I'm generally too asleep to know for certain.. I don't think I've heard it though.

No, he has axed the Cheesy Song apart from the very last line.

I am quite sad to be so negative about Mills these days too because I used to really like his show. It's only been in the last two years really that it's got so terrible and cringe-making, and I'm not really sure what happened. I was trying to think back to what it was I used to like about Scott before, and I think it was just that he sounded happy, fun, he was funny - he didn't "do a show" as such, he presented a radio slot and was amusing and witty in-between tracks. Maybe the difference is that now he does The Scott Mills Show rather than just presents the radio slot. I know that's what Moyles does, he does The Moyles Show, not the breakfast show, but the difference is the show that Moyles does is a good one, and when something doesn't work, they drop it, change it, move it whatever - Mills just persists with the same old crap even though it's dreadful. No imagination, no spontaneity, no freshness. And it is sad.

I agree with that. Mills was great on early breakfast when he did that, I was pleased when I heard he was moving to afternoons when Sara Cox went off on her first maternity leave.. unfortunately, though, the show is a lot worse.

I can't work out whether it's Scott as a presenter that I don't like, or the content. Some of his exchanges with Chappers are quite entertaining, so I think it's probably more to do with the content. I can't actually listen to Flirt Divert, some of the pond life that crop up on that would be turned down by Jeremy Kyle.

Why do we need to have this discussion each time Mills is in for Moyles? If you don't like it, don't listen? As much as it goes against what I believe, he is obviously popular with a certain group of people.

There is just a need to get at him, tear his work to pieces... it's a compulsion.

I woke up to Wogan this morning, it was great waking up to the soothing voice of some bumbling oldboy.
He won't ever replace Moyles, but he'll bide me over for the next few weeks.

I'm just glad he's on while I am on my holidays too, means I'm never up to hear him ransack the airwaves.

I also couldnt be bothered to change my alarm and have for the last 3 days woken up and got straight out of bed rather than listen to that drivel.

I normally lie their listening for 30-45mins and then have to rush around and be late for work

thank you Scott Mills, i have been ontime everyday this week!

I think Mills is doing a really good job on breakfast. Although he's not as funny as Moyles, Scott isn't up himself either so it's a bit of a refreshing change.

I don't think Moyles is up himself either. I do think Mills is crap though.

Basically, I think you're wrong.

Fair enough. I think you're wrong too! :D

Anyway, it's only for 2 weeks and then normality can resume.

Scott's going to be doing Abba Gold tomorrow, which may be very good.

At first I hated Mills, then I tolerated him and these days I just grin and bear it, but there is one massive downside to Wogan that you have all but forgotten... He's on Radio 2!!!!!!!

I may not like all of Radio 1 but I'm kidding myself that I'm still young, and Radio 2 is for OLD people.

At a stretch I'd say middle aged, but certainly not 'old'.

People like Dermot O'Leary, Jonathan Ross, Russell Brand, Steve Lamaq, Mark Radcliff and Mark Lamarr are clearly aimed at the younger generations.

I read the other day (altho admittedly its not a reliable source) that "if Wogan decides to give it up" (contract expires next year) then the BBC are thinking of lining up Richard Hammond :? - Thats an odd choice I think, hes a petrol head for chuffs sake, a daredevil.

All the personalities TIAL mentions might be in with a shout though, I would pick Russel Brand or Wossy, but then they're all far better suited to telly, with Moyles its radio first anything else second. So they would have to be committed in order to become a radio institution like the top 2 are at the moment.

6music is also pretty good in the mornings: Sean Keavney on weekdays, Adam & Joe on Saturdays and Russel Howard & Jon Richardson on Sundays.
They actually play decent music too. :D

Radio 2 is not for old folks. BBC Radio 3 and 4 are for old folks! I find wogan mesmorising the NHS could save millions on anesthetics before opperations, just get the patient to listen to wogan they will be out like a light! Before anyone starts this is not a dig at the old togmister there is nothing I like more than doing my wogan voice which is very nearly spot on as a homage to the guy! I have so far listened to his current podcast three times and still can not work out what the hell he is going on about, That said I am tempted to download the next wogan podcast 8O OH the shame of it! The absolute shame of it!

If you want a laugh then may I suggest a brief look at 'The Boards' at http://www.togs.org . A veritable Smörgåsbord of top topics including:
    Holiday Homes for TOGs
    The Rectory
    The Gardeners' Plot
    The Poetry Page
    Book Club
    Outdoor Pursuits
If ever I see any of these topics on chrismoyles.net I will know when to start drawing my pension and looking for a Chris Moyles Retirement Home!

Saying that we do owe Sir Terry some respect as he and his colleague Dr Wallington P. De Wynter Courtney Claibourne Magillicuddy Walters is widely credited with introducing the music of Katie Melua to the British public. (personally I like Katie, those who don't fine! You are entitled to your own opinion) Scott I feel has a lot to learn still but sometimes you can't teach a old dog new tricks. At least I have a major amount of Moyles audio downloads and podcasts on my iPod sorry generic MP3 player to cope with the drive into work to avoid listening to Scott.

And Chris Evans.

I am definitely in the Radio 2 target audience, and enjoy some of those presenters listed above certainly (although Wogan and Bruce I can't cope with) - but I mainly listen to the radio in the morning when getting up and going to work, and at that time of day Chris Moyles is by far the best show available. By a massive distance. Huge.
