What are Wogan's official figures?

Then, as they were saying this morning, he probably has more listeners than Wogan in real terms, since it doesn't count the under 15s or whatever age the limit is set at.

No, but there are almost certainly a hell of a lot more under 15s listening to Radio 1 than Radio 2.. I would say the difference is probably more than 400,000.

Thing is, for a significant number of the under 15's age group, they will be listening to what their parents have on - so actually I reckon a lot of them are probably boosting Wogan's figures.

True, I suppose it depends how they are calculated. How are they calculated, does anyone know? Is it just a percentage of people who have radio monitoring equipment and the figures are projected from that (that's how they do it for TV, isn't it?) And how do they count multiple people listening to the same radio, is it averaged as say two people listening at once?

I bet Jono knows. Or Adam. Hopefully one or the other will pop along to educate us.

It was me....basically the people who take part in calculating the Radio Authority Joint Audience Research figures get given a notebook...that's the special technological equipment the use...oh and probably a biro as well....they simply write down over the course of a week what they have listened to and when. Then the notebooks get handed in like homework and the teahcer marks them and gives the scores to anyone who has paid enough money to receive them.

Do you get paid to do that?
A bit of cash for writing down what I listen to on the radio sounds perfect for a lazy student like myself ;)

It doesn't work like that, it's an unbiased organisation that hands out the books. It's a big like being on a jury at court I guess.
