Reading the thread 'extra special podcast' it would seem to me that people think Moyles' standard is slipping. I wonder why this is? What do people think? Discuss...

No I've just been pondering the demise of Don Imus, never heard of him so have passed details onto Zenon, I think that could be his sort of thing.

In relation to this thread, I dont think Moyles will slip away quietly I think he'll go out with a controversial BANG, like the man mentioned above. Imagine Moyles saying if Vaughn beat him in the ratings he'd eat a dogs penis, and then later on declare that "It tasted good"

I don't really think it's permantenly bad but it just doesnt seem to have the same effect on me as it used to..... maybe there's beeen a change of rules or something like at the begining of the year he was playing more songs than usual..

He could give something back to the earlier listeners, bring back the JK & Joel banter, but I think we're all hooked on the opening song now.

Theres nowt wrong with the show in my eye, anyway before sounding off about the show have a listen to what Chris had to say:

I listen to pretty much every second of every show (that didn't sound quite so sad in my head) and I can't really say I've noticed any decline in quality recently. Granted, some shows aren't as funny as other ones (as is to be expected), but others can be really funny. It's the curse of the Moyles format, it's about randomness and seeing where a conversation will go, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't; over a whole show though, you generally get some good conversation, some funny moments and some stupid callers.

The show has changed a hell of a lot from what it was before Moyles started doing breakfast, but I wouldn't say that it's necessarily worse, it's just targeted at a greater number of people. That means that some people with love one thing and other will love others. You can please some people, all of the time and all people, some of the time, but never all people all of the time; it just doesn't work that way, people's tastes are too diverse to be satisfied by a single thing.

I'm still liking the shows as of late; sometimes Moyles will do an interview with a person I don't really care about (generally music based interviews), but I simply tune out (head wise, not radio wise) and concentrate on work for a few minutes. I can't really see anything wrong with the show at the moment, I'm even listening to Celebrity Tarzan as of late, whereas I didn't used to.

Well said Console, and I enjoy your huge archive of clips lately too, they've brought much joy to the car when theres nothing interesting to listen to in the afternoons as I'm sure older fans of Moyles will understand. If Moyles decided to put his recordings (like Jo Whiley's Live Lounge) onto the shelves of music stores, then Console could certainly expect a fortune if he were given the rights by way as a compliment for his efforts.

Its the podcast thats in trouble in my view, I know the standard does dip when they're on holiday, they've thrown out the 'best-of, best-of' concept and gone with new material, but like with Zane Lowe 'new' doesnt always mean good. I'm very much into editing and I reckon the future of the success of this podcast will be down to how much random stuff you can cram into half an hour - 15 hours of radio dont forget, minus music.

As a big listener (lets not forget why we're all here) I'd love to merely collect great bits of the show and throw them in the mix, it could revolutionise pre-recorded radio, most of TV is pre-recorded so why shouldn't radio put the extra effort in to maximise our listening fun. C0ck it and pull it was a hit, and people are crying out for more of it. But thats the podcast anyway, a small area of the show, its up to them if they love it enough to save it.

I'm looking forward to their return, nothing more to be said really, unlike podcast, live radio really does work, its instant, entertaining and informative, I was won over in 2004 and I've been happy ever since.

Thing is, after two weeks of Mills they don't have to try too hard - so they probably won't!

So not true, Mills is excellent, and I haven't missed Moyles at all, but glas it's back.
I always find that you come from from holiday in one of two states.

1. I kin hate this Job, I want to leave, if they give me any shit that's it I am off .... or
2. I really need to try harder with this job to move forward and get paid more/enjoy it more/ get a promotion.

I would assume it's much the same for the team

I like Mills the DJ, I think he's actually quite funny sometimes, what I can't stand is Captain Nasal, the cackle witch and the entire format of the show. I guess that's because it's aimed at the 13 - 16 year old market and is generally sooooooo scripted.

Interesting how much clout Moyles seems to have at Radio 1 though, in that despite him being away, it's still "the Chris Moyles show", and all his jingles and songs are still getting played in his absence. Keeps the PSR pennies rolling in I guess, whilst he holidays it up.
I'm not too sure but I imagine the afternoon/evening show is not being called the "Scott Mills show, with JK and Joel" at the moment. As I said though I could be wrong about that
