Can Rachel and Chris really continue to work together? Maybe it's just me, but the 2 of them seem increasingly irritated with each other? Either Moyles is talking over her when she tries to speak, or bringing her down!

Today's start to the show (02/02/07) was atrocious, and Rachel DID quickly take the blame (!!). Why Rachel? It IS The Moyles' responsibility to get out his bed and stay out of it, knowing he has to be in for the 0655 start!

Stand up to it, Rachel!!

(BTW: the rest of the show quickly picked up and ended well!). :-)

Why? Because they're friends and because I don't read anything into two people being irratated by each other. My friends irratate me all the time, but that doesn't mean we're going to 'fall out' over it. Besides, I don't think Chris and Rachel do irratate each other that much.

I would like to see Rachel attached to some form of human catapult.

Yeah, and just leave her there to get bored and go mental.

Viv is right in that Chris I think was peeved with rachel and dave for doing such a rubbish start to the show, and that Rachel / the BBC should be better prepared, and that I felt that Chris gave Dom his backing sort of in that he said that he was the only one who would have done a good job of it. He also mentioned and seemed annoyed at the way the BBC deal with absences, in that they just continue with the show that was on before or bring the next show in early, and that he felt what should happen is the Chris Moyles show is more than just Chris, and that the style, format and features should be able to be achieved, even without him being there.

I don't think that it's anything other than Chris making his point that he wasn't happy with the performance of his team when asked to deal with a relatively minor issue, as they are too wound up in the rules of the BBC, and really just are rubbish at making decisions regarding what is decent entertainment. So I think he employed the "treat them like the errant puppy and rub there noses in it"

More to the point it shows that some people here havn't read Moyles autobiography where Chris' mentions the relationship between himself and one Producer Rachel.

I'll quote from it for you.

"So, I'd finally got it, my dream job, the breakfast show. But I needed a good staff behind me to make it great, and there was only one person I could think of, Rachel Jones. I found her in the office and asked her if she wanted to produce the Chris Moyles breakfast show, and after a pause she said........"YAM YAM YAM YAM YAM YAM YAM YAM YAM YAM YAM YAM YAM, get back to work you, oi stop being rude, PLAY A RECORD, oh we're so random this morning, YAM YAM YAM YAM!!!".
I knew I was making the mistake of my life, but she was contracted by the BBC so I had no say in the matter at all".

Irritation is good - it means that one doesn't fawn to the other!
I love it when Chris is late - although it does f**k up my timekeeping too - lol
Great to have a different start to the show (and thank god it wasn't Dick & Dom!)

I read Moyles' book over Christmas and several times he states that doing the R1 breakfast show is his dream job and the pinnacle of his career etc.

If I was lucky enough to be doing my dream job, I wouldn't let my boss or my colleagues down so often by lazing around in bed when I should be on my way to work.

It just shows utter disrespect for R1 management and the audience when Moyles thinks he can just swan in 20 minutes late for a radio show heard by millions around the world.

The vast majority of Chris' audience works bloody long hours for not much money. Moyles only has to drag is fat arse out of bed for 4 hours a day and gets close to £700,000 a year. Plus, he only lives about 10 minutes from the studios so being consistently late should not be tolerated.

I'm actually finding Moyles a bit boring now. He's lost the sparkle and creativity he had say 5 years ago when he did the afternoon show.

Totally agree. I am getting to the point where I am actually disliking him. His ego is beyond a joke now. He thinks he can brush it off by making reference to it himself, but it doesnt disguise the fact he is massively up his own arse.

I am reluctant to go down the "I am a licence payer and I pay your wages" route, but it is true and I resent his arrogance and pomposity.
Moyles likes to say "if you dont like it, dont listen". Well I think I may just take his advice..

Are you doing you dream job? or are you just jealous??

Have you read his book/know what he has done to become a Radio 1 DJ? Yes I work bloody long hours too - you really think he only works 4 hours a day? Ha ha - if he did, no way would he be where he is now!

I'm obviously someone who is a lot more tolerant of other people's opinions than you.

What? Lying in bed having a fag listening to his colleagues trying to nervously salvage the opening to his radio show?

Moyles himself admits he's often back in his flat playing Xbox by lunchtime, so that equates to 4 or 5 hours work a day. Please have the courtesy to read my original post properly.

It's a fair point, I think.

The real spark and creative genius he used to show seemed (and this is underlined by reading the book) to be driven by his ambition to make it to The Top - in this case the Radio 1 Breakfast Show. And I get the impression that, having got there and made it his own, he's slightly on auto-pilot now.

He seems to perform best when he's got a target to motivate him, and it's hard to see what the next target would be. TV's usually the next step, but he's tried and failed at it, and probably won't feel inclined to try harder again because of his well known love for radio. So what next?

I suppose if the competition was on the march or something it might spur him on a bit, but I agree that lately the show has got slightly off the boil.

That said, it's still the only thing I'll tolerate on Radio 1 - I still believe he's head, shoulders and beer gut above everything else on the station. Which is damning with faint praise in a way, since the rest is terrible.

I find Scott Mills & Chappers to be a good listen. I preferred Moyles in the late afternoons, though. He, Will and Dave made the dreary winter afternoons bearable.

I heard Nihal this morning, and I thought he was genuinely a nice guy with none of this offensive, brash ego-tripping stuff Moyles comes out with. He was a pleasure to listen to.

Jo Whiley is well past her sell-by date now - time for her to move over and let some new blood in. There's some serious talent lurking over at 6Music (which seems to have become a dumping ground for ex-R1 presenters such as Nemone Matexas and Steve Lamacq), but nevertheless Whiley should hang up her DT100's and move along.

Saturday show is up. I'm waiting to see if Neil h[…]
