The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

This forum seems to have changed a lot since this time last year and loads of the older members aren't posting as much or have gone completly- betti, topher, gaspode. The only regulars from the old guard seem to be MC and Sidla.
At the same time loads of other members have joined- Rychu, foot-loose, bag of balls.

Is this just the site naturally evolving for the better or is it a conscious decision for the regulars to leave since there has been a influx of newbies in the last year? This site possibly does need new members due to the lack of tedious link and review updates in recent years...

Talking about newbies...I've been a member of this site for 3 three years now. Seriously. 8O

Forums change, the members change. I've only been a member here for a few months and I was hovering for a few months before that. I know that some newbies are irritating, but there are a few who stick around and make worthwhile posts, you just have to put up with the irritating ones until they decide to leave or improve their posting style. I've been members of other forums for several years, and people do come and go.

It is noticeable that when new people join, a proportion of older members seem to resent them - perhaps they think this is "their" forum and don't like to share their toys. As a site, this has famously been described as "cliquey", which I think is an understandable conclusion to have reached, but the reality is that people come and go. There has been an invasion of trolls this afternoon for instance, which has kept Consol busy mopping up their puerility - this kind of thing annoys everybody, but there are definitely some "older" members on here whose default position on even the most reasonable new members is aggressive. But on the whole, I think its ok - evolving, definitely, but retaining its character!

but I dont think it can be called "cliquey" any more as everyone in the clique has disappeared!

If you mean topher and gaspode, they are both here quite a lot! And I am only assuming you mean them because you mentioned them in your initial post.

I have heard that this forum has a tendancy to be unfriendly to newbies and 'cliquey'. On the whole, people seem to be alright, but there are some people who are unfriendly or assume that all newbies are trolls.

I have only been here a few months, but I think that if you are going to actually post on this site, you probably do need to be a bit thick skinned - but that is part of the character of it all. Its not a love-fest here, you need to fight your corner! I like that about it - its why I am here rather than wallowing around in pink fluffy clouds of love over at Unnofficialmills!

I think a case is point is Adam, he comes back with useful stuff now and again now, and is not so frequent, I assume this is due to his job, or other commitments and not because he's all that fed up.

Not that I can speak for him, but I am assuming,

Chris does a great job I reckon, and consoles not too bad when you understand where it is he is coming from.

I like newbies, and I hate spammers/trolls, but I am trying to curb my desire to say agreesive things to them.

Bag for Balls is fun and sexy, and yudster is lovely and kind, Fowler is young, inteligent, and confident, Quincy is cool, Saviour Boy is up there with Bfb, Gaspode I irritate, not that he may be alone, but he does say, and Topher is a good guy, with strong opinions.

Self reflection is marvelous, but If I could wish for one thing for this site in this new year is more subtle rudity and double entendre's and lude comments, thats funny / irritating !

We're still here, it's just (in my opinion anyway) a heck of a lot of rubbish is posted here now that I just don't want to contribute to.

As I said when I joined up, I have probably been floating around here for about three years now if not longer. Because of that, I know how the forum works, what the sense of humour is like and what tends to wind folk up. Also, even though Im a newbie - it feels like ive been on here for years.

Fowler wrote:Some newbies are irritating but some add alot and make the site better like Foot-Loose.

Thats a compliment from Sidders AND from Fowler now! My heads going to get too big soon!

I've been part of this forum for a while too, and have really grown to enjoy it. However forums do change, and it certainly has changed a bit over the last 6 years or so ago. The internet was still a fairly new thing, and I suppose some parents found it a little too expensive. Unlike now, where there are plenty of 13 year old upwards, what with the myspace age kicking in, its a different kind of place. It was more raw 5/6 years ago, but now the internet appeals to a wider audience. Along with Radio, people grow to like certain people and trends.

Moyles probably wasnt on most people's list of radio listens, but with Mills who obviously attracts a younger audience ( - who knows, when they reach the average age of a moyles member they'd of grown up and still have Its nice that people from the start have stayed here, ive seen alot of people come and go, but with the likes of Topher, Eddie, Kendra K, Gaspode, I think Sidders is on that list too who very much been around from the start, it wouldnt be the same. Uglybob was around for a while, came back, and has now gone again?

Its nice to see the people ive listed still here, the more the better, as it wouldnt be the same.

I was never one of the old, old school. I (fortunately by the sounds of it) missed the era of Sticky Spanner, etc. However, I guess I've been here a while now.

Stickyspanner was a bigger cuddly lump of fun. I always imagined him and Eddie getting married and being the Elton John and David Furnish of the board.

Stevotrash used to be the funniest but then he became old and bitter.

I was always bitter.

This site is exceptionally run, its commitment to bringing quality audio is why I stick around, everyone wants their pound of flesh out of you in this world but not this place, very unique and the punters here speak dividends for the type of audience Chris attracts.
