The genie in the advert is actually a mate of mine from Liverpool and funnily enough he's in panto in Rochdale next week but unfortunately, he's not playing a genie

I think it's a case of the moustache and beard giving the man a resemblance to the "old chinese man" stereotype of 80s TV. When this is what you're exposed to as a youngster I guess some of it sticks.
