He wasn't axed he decided to leave

From Digital Spy

DJ Spoony has decided to leave Radio 1, according to reports.

The presenter, who currently hosts the weekend breakfast show, has been with Radio 1 for six years, but now feels it is time to concentrate on his FiveLive career.

According to The Mirror, Spoony said: "I've had a fantastic six years, but I'm looking forward to getting stuck into my role at Five Live, where I get to share my passions for sport and broadcasting."

Spoony will leave Radio 1 in September, when the station will have a schedule shake-up, including the split of Colin and Edith from the afternoons slot.

I don't actually mind him on weekend breakfast, but his 6 0 6 show is awful on 5 live.

Thank you Fish heads. Of course he was thrown out... let me tell you there are alot more shock changes to be had at Radio 1 this year.

I've heard quite a few things from the inside! Spoony ain't the only one being shown the door.

Seriously, this is great news.

Get rid of the dead wood and get some entertaining, engaging DJ's in.

Bets for weekend breakfast then?

Doubt it. They would both be working 7 days a week - Dave especially wouldn't appreciate doing the 7-10am slot every single day

I know who it is and can tell you.....

Radio 1 have to be politically correct which means....

As good as he'd be... it's not him.

I also heard today from someone in Radio 1 that Vernon Kay is extremely popular... what?

I think he's rubbish.

Vernon's Sunday show is popular, as it doesn't play playlist stuff. Infact it's quite a good show his Sunday one.

Thought she was also pretty much out the door anyway? Beeb bosses being annoyed with her for going on Love Island and all?

and Annie Mac is probably best looking now... and Laura off Mills show, and Joce off Moyles.

It has to be someone from an Ethnic "minority" ?

I thought Spooney on his own sucked, I preferred the days when it was the Dreem Team, especially when UK Garage was mainstream and they used to showcase a lot of new stuff.

Trevor Nelson might be good on early weekends... and nobody's properly explained what was so bloody bad about Spoony? I always found his shows good listening to ease me into my weekend.

I do remember the days of the Dreem Team, and it was pretty good. Then for some reason, he was left on his own to DJ (worst thing to happen to Radio 1)

To be honest, I'm glad that painful weekend mornings are coming to an end. If someone ethnic is going to be put in his place, hopefully it will be someone not as dull as Spoony and make me want to listen.

Lets make a list....

1) A voice that is equivalent to nails being scratched down a blackboard
2) Couldn't speak without making himself sound like an idiot
3) In terms of radio presenting/style, he was awful
4) Made countless mistakes
5) Never had a decent feature to compliment the show
............
...........

And the list could go on forever. I personally found his show painful to listen to.

Never saw any of that... all that could apply to Vernon Kay and Sara Cox-ucker , both of them are like audio laxatives for me, they irritate the s**t outta me.

and to point 5; how about;
1) Early Doors Club
2) Mills and Spoon
3) Daddy Cool

theres 3 right there...

I havnt heard 2 or 3, but number 1 was a waste of an hour of national radio.

Spoony was there so their quota of black people on daytime radio could be filled.

Agreed on the point with black people on Radio 1. It shouldn't have to be that way,

Early Doors Club just drove me up the wall. I couldn't see the point in it at all. The two features were very ropey and didn't impress at all from what I hard of them.

Both Vernon Kay and Sara Cox (even tho both arent the best DJS in the world) add a bit of personality and diversity into Radio 1. Listening to Spoony was listening to an average tin pot radio station unfortunately. He didn't make the cut like everyone else.

His Sunday show is a good one in spite of him not because of him. Spoony is gone, now get rid of Kaye.

1 you could say the same about Spoony... as far as im concerned he gets a real RAW deal from radio so-called 'listeners'

and if you think Vernoff and Cox-ucker 'make the cut' you need your head seeing to.
