I've always referred to them as tentacles before.

I do Latin and I was taught that because our language derives from Latin, therefore Octopi is more correct than Octopuses (although acceptable nowadays). But I may be wrong..

Actually, Console is completely correct. Octopuses is the correct pluralisation. I love English, it never follows the same rules twice....!

OK, since the fires, I'm behind nearly a week in listening to Moyles. I'm still only listening to LAST Wednesday's show and I just nearly fell off my chair. Did anyone else notice that (at 17:24) during the conversation about Chris and Dave's friend who has a "weave," Dave says if you came out of the ocean with a thicker weave you may have "octopuses" stuck in it? I'm really not sure why there's a debate as to which is correct. There is only one answer to that, any English dictionary will tell you the same thing - Octopuses. However, as to what people actually say, well, there are clearly more answers to that one. As long as people know that you mean "more than one octopus", I reckon any of the (incorrect) options would work.
