Sorry Demonhorse but I agree with Bag for Balls, near the end of his career, Schumacer was earning in the range of £35million per year, and that was after the exhange rate.

Extreme case... no one else was even close...

not to mention that you have your figures wrong, it was TWENTYFIVE Mil, not 35...

Yeah, I mean I would struggle to live on £25m as well.

You say it's an extreme case, and to a degree you'd be right, but (and I realise some drivers pay for their place) all the top drivers are paid well, none of them struggle to make a crust and that's because they're good at what they do - the same is true of footballers, regardless of whether or not they make X amount more than the average F1 driver.

Teams have a certain amount of money to spend on their personnel, the amount they are prepared to spend is in direct relation to how much they have to spend, obviously. Football has big money sponsors, packs out 40,000 stadiums every week and has less to spend on engineering and technlogy; F1 also has the sponsors, packs out circuits only 16 times a year (less races but more people per race) and have to spend more money on constantly changing technology.

The fact is, as Quincy said, if you are going to make any decent amount of money in sport, you have to be extremely good.

That I don't dispute... i just don't think they are fully deserving of the sheer amount for what they do. I say the same about F1 drivers, but as they do something that VERY few can they would deserve proportionally more. Schumacher only got that amount because he was a 7time champion and broke countless other records on the way.

and Topher... seems footballers struggle to live on millions because they still get into debt, I am always amazed how this happens.

Sorry to ressurect this, I had just spotted my mistake. I read in an F1 magazine that Micheal Schumacer earned roughly over $50 million, which after the exchange rate was worked out to be £35 million. And its not just Schumacer either, several other drivers have multi million pound contracts with sponsorship and everything. Ralf Schumacer gets something like £20 million after the dollor to pound exchange rate.

I am an F1 devotee btw ;)
