Just out of interest, are there any others on here who abstain from voting?
Me.
The political choice on the mainland is appalling enough but over here its a few rungs higher on the 'Holy Fu*ck, you've got to be kidding me' ladder.
Its not that i don't hold strong political views, i do, but there is not one political party or individual that i would trust to represent me.
I hold the view that Norn Iron is run by terrorist murderers & corrupt swindlers entirely for the benefit of terrorist murderers & corrupt swindlers.
The only role for their electorate is to trot out every so often like the sheep they are & vote for whatever toady or gunman from either side they are instructed to.
Sometimes more than once a day.
For me not voting is not , as is usually depicted by hectoring editorials in both the left & right wing press, a question of laziness, but a conscious decision to divorce myself of responsibility of picking crooks & thugs to run the country into the ground.
For all my many faults i can at least go to my grave safe in the knowledge that it had f*ck all to do with me.
When i lived on the mainland i was almost as shocked by the state of the three main political parties there too & again exercised my right not to vote.
If they ever do bring in compulsory voting , unless there is a 'none of the above' option ( and there won't be as that would win a landslide every election) then i'm quite happy to be prosecuted for declining to vote. I genuinely do feel that strongly about it.
