The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Thanks, I will. And I don't think men are ill more than women, or malingerers or anything - and I'm not ill often, which is lucky because I'm very bad at it. I was just pointing out that most of the family based tasks which are carried out on a daily basis fall to the wife/mother (I'm sure it's less noticeable if you don't have kids), and they're not really practically interchangeable.

you should see my dad when he is ill, yuds! A simple cold is like pneumonia x 100. Snorting and coughing all over the place.

I have seen this phenomenon. But to be fair, women can do it too.

I'm rarely ill so when I am ill i'll milk it for all the sympathy and TLC I can get!

My missus on the other hand says things like "I can't answer the door I've got an earache".

Is that the Colly?!

Yeah, but it got refurbished and is now know as Kazbah. Everyone still calls it the Colly though.

I did. He confirmed that I am ill.

I'm soo glad these doctors earn their money!

Yudster wrote: He told me that I have an infection in the deep tissues around my ear, jaw and eye socket. Which explained why my head was swollen up like the Elephant Man. He also said it was stress-related - how?! And that I must go to bed for three days. I say again - How??!!

Typical man! No idea how busy women's lives are!

Yudster wrote: but I have changed my mind about going Christmas shopping today and am staying tucked up in blankets at home instead. At least my head has shrunk back to normal size. Can't hear out of my left ear at all though, which made singing yesterday a bit nervy

I don't blame you about the Christmas shopping. Hope your blankets are keeping you warm! Singing with a blocked ear is practically impossible! Mind you the one comfort is you couldn't hear yourself!

Get better soon honey!

Refurbished aye...interesting...I bet the floors are still sticky. Infact I'd be dissappointed if they were'nt. I must go down and get drunk there soon.

Well, I think the impression than men collapse under illness more easily than women is a lifestyle thing really more than anything. When you collapse into bed, its the domestic stuff that doesn't get done - and realistically most domestic stuff (in families anyway) tends to be done by women, so men don't collapse because they are wimps, they collapse because they can! It's not fair, but life isn't!

I don't necessarily agree, I think that is from times of old, when women stayed at home and did the housework and men went out to work. That is how things used to work, it's not now. Now that generally both sides of a relationship go out to work, I think housework is shared (and rightly so).

And while we're at it, I think the reason both couples now work in most relationships is not because of women shouting about their equal rights, its because families now can't afford to send one person to work.

Absolutely. But your assesment of the distribution of domestic work in modern households bears very little resemblance to the majority in reality. Although congratulations to Mrs T if she's got you started on the right foot! And Topher, I'm not moaning about it, in fact I think it works pretty well.

Well I have no problem with helping out and never have. My mum always had us helping out when we were kids, I think that's the key.

Thank God you said that, I feared an imminent spiral of sexism.

You get used to it on here. And in life general.

Women get away with a lot more!
