I've no idea how THEY kill them, but its not going to be starvation!! They probably freeze them alive. It's not all that plesant, but its a damn sight better for the rats than letting them die slowly over days or maybe weeks.

I have no problems with the snakes eating the rats, thats life - but what you're doing is downright animal cruelty if those things are left to starve for ages.
