I've no idea what the problem is - Mr Yudster's office is a largely metal building, and apparently thats why they can't get a good digital signal for anything, the only tolerable reception they get is for Heart, and sometimes Capital - but apparently all it takes is for a lorry to park outside the building and it disappears.

I work on the sixth floor of a steel tower and whilst we can get no FM signal at all, we get R1 digitally, but that can be affected by things like the weather and even sometimes the time of the day.

Tis indeed. In mainland Europe they don't really have it at all, so i don't see why we have to be subjected to it. I blame mobile phones.

Ach, im confused again.

According to the BBC website:

The breakfast host's weekly audience broke the seven million barrier for the first time in the first three months of 2007, the Rajar research showed.

But I thought they had broken that before? :?

It's the first time Moyles has gone over 7million and R1 only have an average of 10.55million overall so it is a big thing.

From mediaguardian.co.uk, various stories:

Radio 1 breakfast DJ Chris Moyles has broken through the 7 million listener barrier for the first time to help BBC radio to its biggest audience.
[..]
[all, not just R1] BBC radio had a record 56% share of the audience and its biggest weekly reach of 33.46 million people in the first quarter of 2007 - nearly 1 million more listeners than the same period last year, according to Rajar figures published today.

Moyles had a record nationwide audience of 7.04 million, piling on another 744,000 listeners compared with the same period last year.

He also had a record audience in London of more than 1.04 million, the first time he has had more than 1 million listeners in the capital.

The self-proclaimed "saviour of Radio 1" helped the station add an extra 800,000 listeners year on year, taking its overall audience to 10.55 million. Its share of 10.1% was up one-tenth from 9.1% last year.

London is seen as a "big" target because it's got the largest regional reach for radio.

So on commercial stations:
Vaughan's Capital breakfast show had 854,000 listeners in the first quarter of this year, up 41,000 on the previous quarter, according to Rajar figures published today.

The Capital DJ claimed the number one commercial breakfast show title back from Heart's Jamie Theakston and Harriet Scott, who shed 123,000 listeners on the previous quarter, down to 825,000.

He's been over 7 Million for the last few sets of these figures hasn't he? Hence the now-old Jingle.

But his jingle that has been played out several times over the last year suggests that they have had over 7 million listeners for a while?

If you listen to the second jingle in this clip then you will hear what I mean. That appears to have been added on the 17/06/2004.

That jingle has been played loads of times. Hast thou jingles been lying to me? Surely not!
no idea about data on everywhere else .... good they were making it clear about being number one in London, with so many different djs to listen to down there !!
I hear a rumour that Moyles is not the number 1 in London despite him banging on about it this morning have an indepth look at the results and all will become clear. 8O

Reckon that was a generous rounding up in the past...

http://www.radiotoday.co.uk/news.php?extend.1944 - says first ever (and they seem industry based)

http://www.radiotoday.co.uk/rajar/index.html - puts r1 for 01/05 down at 8.9m overall

Wikipedia (not ideal but googling would take time & effort :P) lists it as:
01/04 - 5.5mish (only reported as "putting on 1m extra)
03/05 - 6.5m (895,000 in london; top placed)
02/06 - 6.79m
01/07 - 7.06m

Scroll up, I've quoted the RAJAR stats for 01/07 and he's some 200,000 ahead.
You might have read the "commercial broadcaster" story which doesn't mention the BBC stations and has a JV "retaking top spot" kinda spin.

It's actually Radio 4's Today that's number 1 in London

It's all to do with how the radio station publicise their figures. Last time round when Chris played the "Capital used to be number 1 in London, but now we are jingles" he'd always come off the back of them and say "in certain demographics only". Radio stations will always take the best parts of the figures, and fail to mention the worst.

Well, the "Growing popular movement" seems to be down the pub:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/chrismoyles/ ... entsanchor

Good enough for me, now normally thats where I'd go if I'm a part of such a movement, but sadly gym duties beckon, I don't know how many of the "8 million" will be celebrating too.

Just realised after I posted this, the link says SEVEN million lol, whereas the blog title says 8, mind you I always have trouble counting after I've had a few.

The thing is, you can't really start a thread congratulating the show on their new statistics and then promptly claim that the stats don't matter to you. Well you can obviously, but don't expect others to not want to debate the thread topic - which is the listener figures.
