I think Dave's role is massively important to the success of the show, simply because he's Chris's mate. It gives the show a sense that, ignoring the bits and bobs where Chris is specifically talking to the audience, you could be eavesdropping on them chatting in the pub. Dave doesn't really have to say much, he just has to be there to give the show that friendly feel -- much in the same way Chris Evans' cronies made his show work. There was the sense that if they weren't on the radio, they'd still be talking the same old cr@p to each other anyway.
This is the same reason why, for me anyway, Jo Whiley's show doesn't work.
Of course, the exception to the rule above is anything that has, does or will feature Mark Chapman. He's just too much of an arse for anything involving him to work.
Carrie's role, on the other hand, God only knows but the one thing that she's officially involved in, ie Carrie On Footballers is worse than King of Tickets. I'm not sure if she's trying to sound sultry, but she just sounds like a robot from a 1970s sci-fi show that had no budget left to spend on a real robot. Especially the little PS at the end, which is a lowlight moment in a lowlight feature.
