Aye, Arbroath is the North East of Scotland I beleive so your knowledge of the vernacular is impressive. English people refuse to make any sounds that risks loosening phlegm, which is why we say Lock, it's more polite you know.

I assume you mean the word "loch"?

I have no idea how to describe what that sounds like on a forum. Wikipedia says: "A loch (usually Lough as a name element outside Scotland) is a body of water".

Id compare it the the spanish analogy you just used. I wouldnt use the word "hacking" though - its a lot softer sounding!
